Michelle Schroeder
Board of Education

I believe that everything that is happening in our town is important to the future generations that will reside here.   I also believe that no matter what… our children come first.  I believe that the changes occurring on the BOE over the past few years are positive and I want to keep them moving forward.  I have a clear understanding of what works and does not work in our current town government and I want to become involved on a higher level.  I believe the BOE is a perfect fit for my experience, knowledge and strengths.

I am of the firm belief that elected officials need to listen to the people and do what is best for them, but I do not believe that would ever mean to put any of our children’s or citizens’ futures in jeopardy.  I would like to be the voice of the school system combined with the greater Southington Community to unite the two and become one grand community working together toward the future.  I look forward to further helping the Town of Southington “Grow Forward.”  My knowledge and experience with the school system in Southington will benefit the community in Southington as a whole.

I have attended numerous meetings of the Town Council, Board of Finance, and Board of Education, including budget workshops, and have a well-rounded perspective on issues facing our Southington community.  My passion for children and the town is demonstrated in the following volunteerism and community service:

  • President of the Derynoski Elementary School PTO from 2005 to 2009.

-- Will continue to serve on the executive board as co-corresponding secretary and the PTO President’s advisor through this school year.

  • Volunteer and member of Grace United Methodist Church and Nursery School

-- Co-Chair on the Nursery School Board and a member of the Finance committee.
-- Religious teacher and helper for the last 7 years.
-- Assist the school in the pursuit of fundraisers / discounted prices for products for events.

  • Coaching

-- Coached for the past 6 years through farm, minor, and major league girls’ softball.     -- Southington Park and Recreation Woman’s Softball league, team player and coach.
-- Assistant coach, Southington Park and Recreation Youth Soccer League 3 teams in 2 years, in 3 divisions.

  • S.T.E.P.S. (Southington’s Town wide Effort to Promote Success), Member since inception.

  • Service Organizations for Children

-- Registered Girl Scout on and off for the past 31years.
-- Volunteer registered with Southington Troop 66361.
-- Volunteer with the Southington Pack 8 Cub Scouts, Den #2 and Den #8.

  • Additional Volunteer and Leadership Commitments

-- For the past 16 years, participant / member of Epilepsy Foundation of CT’s Mud Volleyball Tournament.
-- Chairperson and/or team leader for “Shining Peace upon the Pettit’s,” American Cancer Society “Daffodil Days” and “The Penny Drive” for Bread for Life.
